New this holiday season! Support Farmington Valley Chorus and promote your business or organization by buying a program ad. Farmington Valley Chorus is thrilled to be in its 49th year of bringing harmony, friendship, and sisterhood to singers of all ages. We are proud members of Sweet Adelines, International, an organization of diverse singers teaching and performing a capella in the barbershop style. Our focus is on education, diversity, personal empowerment, leadership, and community outreach with a culture of belonging, all while providing the gift of song. One of the ways we work to improve our skills is through competition with other Sweet Adeline choruses and participation in various educational conferences. Proceeds from program ad sales will help offset the cost of travel and other contest expenses and allow us to continue to spread joy and harmony to singers and audiences alike. All ads will be shared with our audience of about 300 Farmington Valley residents. Quarter page and above ads include social media recognition. | |||

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Karen Puzzo, a 42 year member of Farmington Valley Chorus, passed away on July 3rd surrounded by her family and friends with the Hartford skyline lit up in fireworks for a proper send off. Karen was a wonderful force of nature. She joined Farmington Valley in 1980 and along with some fabulous bass singing, quickly became the queen of costumes, the sovereign leader of sets and scripts and the mistress of mayhem. Karen graciously and gladly shared her talents with others in the chorus, so much so that her tips and tricks are still used for our various shows even today. Karen was the Competition Coordinator for Region 1 Sweet Adelines, and noticing her many organizational skills she was voted on to the Regional Board of Directors and eventually became Regent. She traveled the world with FVC, but the sweetest moment in her Sweet Adelines International career was when she was presented with the Marge Bennett Award. The criteria for the award were you have to ”be a lady, a friend, be beautiful inside and out and loved by everyone you meet”. That was Karen to the letter. Karen treasured and wore the angel necklace given to her for the award every day. Karen was very fortunate to have what she called "angels" help her when she couldn't always afford to attend Sweet Adelines competitions and trips around the country and world. Her family has established the Karen Puzzo One Voice Scholarship with the Farmington Valley Chorus to create even more angels in her honor and to be an angel for those having difficulty affording all that is required for this “hobby”. Contributions to this scholarship can be made by making a donation to Farmington Valley Chorus, 900 Misty Meadow Lane, South Windsor, CT 06074. Karen, as far as FVC is concerned you were “Born To Be Wild”. The rebel leader of our FVC Scooter Squad will always be in our hearts as we ring those chords! Keep the rubberside down our friend (scooter slang for goodbye and Godspeed). Karen’s full obituary can be found here: https://www.legacy.com/.../legacy.../karen-puzzo-obituary... |
We celebrated some Sweet Adelines anniversaries last night. Congratulations to Erika on 5 years, Mayuko on 1 year, and Ann-Marie, Megan, and Corinna on 10 years! We're so happy that you joined our FVC family. πΆ |
In September, we're heading to Phoenix to compete in the first Sweet Adelines International Competition since 2019. Our road there requires lots of hard work and training sessions with coaches that we bring in from around the country. They work with us to perfect our craft and hone our skills. We had our first such day last weekend, since March of 2020. Ryan Heller came and worked with us for about 7 hours. It was serious business, but we had lots of laughs too, and we ended the day a much stronger and cohesive unit than when he arrived. We are grateful for this opportunity to improve our chorus' performance ability and very excited to see the progress that we are making on our road to Phoenix! |
Last night we welcomed another wonderful singer. Sonya (center) will be singing and ringing with us as a member of our lead section. And she's very excited to join in our journey as we prepare to compete at the international competition in Phoenix in September! |
We are so thrilled to have Mary Lou (center) join our lead section! We're happy that she found us, and we know that her beautiful voice will help our chords ring even more. |
We had the pleasure of singing in a new member this week!!! Elsa (middle) joinied our amazing lead section. We're so happy that she stuck with us through months of forced Zoom rehearsals due to Covid. Welcome Elsa! |
We had online Zoom rehearsals for 14 months when covid forced us apart. During that time, we got to know each other much better because of a feature that Pat implemented, called What's Your Line? She spotlighted and interviewed one chorus member weekly. We met and heard about their kids and family members, learned how they became Sweet Adelines, saw their homes, and learned abut what makes them tick when they aren't singing. Because of this, we became closer than ever before. And for this, we thank you, Pat. You are awesome! |
We were so happy to welcome Rebecca as a member of Farmington Valley Chorus on July 21, 2021!!! She moved to Connecticut from New Orleans just before the pandemic shut everything down. She was already a Sweet Adeline and had been a member of Crescent City Sound Chorus for 6 years. She missed the music, friendship, and fun. We are so glad she found us and can’t wait to add her beautiful tenor voice to our harmonies. Welcome Rebecca! |
We welcomed Carly as our newest member on July 14, 2021. She is a wonderful lead, who we first met on Zoom back in September during shutdown. She participated in our holiday virtual chorus rendition of Happy Holidays and finally met us all for the first time this spring, as we returned to in person rehearsals. Oh, Carly, thanks for sticking with us, and welcome to FVC! |
Talk about trial by fire. When covid forced us to Zoom rehearsals in March of 2020, Laura (right) stepped up and figured everything out for us. She learned the platform and implemented a successful online meeting program most Wednesday nights for 14 months. This helped us to hone our skills and provided us with a place to gather together weekly, just like we have been for many years in person. We are grateful that she took this on and kept us together and singing at a time that was lonely and bleak. Laura, you are awesome! |
We were so happy to welcome Mayu as a member of Farmington Valley Chorus on June 2, 2021!!! Mayu (in yellow shirt) will be hitting the high notes as an addition to our tenor section. She started visiting our rehearsals prior to the shut down and stuck with us on Zoom through the whole pandemic. Oh, Mayu, you had the longest audition in FVC history, and we’re thrilled to finally have you as one of us!!! |
