FVC is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, and is located in Simsbury, Connecticut (Region 1).

There are so many reasons to join FVC! Below are just a few...

Learn to Sing!

From the moment you join the Farmington Valley Chorus (FVC) on the risers, you'll learn to develop your singing voice in a friendly, fun and supportive atmosphere while singing haunting ballads, rousing up-tunes, Broadway hits and more.

Your ear will become accustomed to the sound of a pitch pipe being blown. Your soul will thrill to the music of ringing chords and overtones. And your curiosity will be piqued by unfamiliar phrases, such as: Down the Tiles, Hang Ten, From the Edge, and Turn Those Diphthongs!

If you have trouble singing other types of choral music, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that you don't need the vocal range of an opera star to sing barbershop. Most songs are sung within a one-octave range. And, with four different voice parts, there will surely be one suited to your vocal capability.

Learning doesn't stop at weekly rehearsals. As a member of FVC and Sweet Adelines International, you'll be invited to attend a variety of educational sessions. These include our chorus-sponsored Annual Retreat, Sing Your Part Smart, and occasional, day long Saturday coaching sessions, as well as Sweet Adelines' Regional Education Weekends held at varying New England locations. You'll learn everything from vocal production and breathing techniques to showmanship and acting tips, makeup, costuming, stage production and more from some of Sweet Adelines' finest coaches. And, if you are so inclined, you may enroll in one or more Sweet Adelines certification programs for Directors, Music Faculty, Judges, or Music Arrangers.

Improve Your Health!

Singing is not only fun, it's a healthy activity. You'll learn proper singing posture and build vocal stamina through carefully designed and executed breathing exercises. Done correctly, your abdominal muscles will really get a workout!

And talking about workouts, by now you may have sensed that the Farmington Valley Chorus is not your typical "hold your music book in front of you, stand still, and sing" choir. We are energetic, face animated, body swaying singers! Many of our songs feature choreographed moves. Surprisingly, this movement frees up our vocal cords, making it much easier to sing.

Laughter can be great medicine and you'll get your fill of it at our rehearsals. Although we are a very committed group of singers, evidenced by our rising placements in competition, we definitely like to have fun! Feel the stress of your over-packed day melt away as you join us at rehearsal.

Share Your Music!

There's nothing the Farmington Valley Chorus likes better than an audience! We come alive and you will too as you join us in sharing our music with others. We perform regularly at events such as The Big E, outdoor summer concerts and local fairs. We also sing at churches, public libraries, organization luncheons or dinners and private parties. Check the Upcoming Performances page for our current schedule. In addition, the chorus presents its own show each year, drawing audiences from throughout Connecticut and surrounding states. While your attendance is not required at every performance, you'll want to join the fun as often as you can.
